Job Description

As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system by conducting various laboratory tests and analyses that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Your expertise in laboratory procedures, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy will contribute to the delivery of accurate and reliable medical information to healthcare providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Sample Collection and Processing: Collect, receive, and prepare patient specimens, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples, for analysis according to established protocols.
  • Laboratory Testing: Perform a range of laboratory tests, including hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, and immunology tests, using specialized equipment and instruments.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results by following quality control procedures, calibrating equipment, and participating in proficiency testing programs.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret test results, identifying any abnormal findings and promptly reporting critical results to healthcare providers.
  • Documentation: Accurately record test data and results in electronic medical records systems, maintaining proper documentation and traceability.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and perform routine maintenance to ensure proper functioning.
  • Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control and safety protocols to prevent contamination and maintain a safe laboratory environment.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with medical technologists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate test interpretation and timely reporting.
  • Continuing Education: Stay updated on new laboratory techniques, technologies, and best practices to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Compliance: Follow regulations, guidelines, and ethical standards related to laboratory practices, patient confidentiality, and data protection.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree or Postsecondary Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized certifying agency.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory equipment, procedures, and techniques.
  • Attention to detail and ability to accurately perform and interpret tests.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory information systems and related software.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills to convey test results effectively.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and sterile laboratory environment.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing laboratory technologies and practices.
  • Ethical conduct and adherence to confidentiality and data protection regulations.
